Through relaxed conversation, we explore childhood memories, relationships, family traditions, turning points, favourite stories and the things that matter to them now.
The result is not a birthday message or a slideshow. It is a personal documentary the family can return to long after the celebration itself.

It can still feel like a surprise.
You do not need to organise a secret camera crew or ask them to perform on their birthday. Many families simply introduce the idea of the film as the gift, then involve the person being filmed in choosing the date, the setting and the stories they are comfortable sharing.

Most people we film are not used to being interviewed. That is completely normal.
The conversation is unhurried and usually takes place at home or somewhere familiar. There is nothing to memorise, no need to look into the camera and plenty of time to pause, think, laugh or go off on a tangent.
The aim is to capture the person your family already knows — not turn them into a presenter.

Giving the film
as a gift.
Can it be a surprise birthday gift?
Yes. You can give the idea of the film as the birthday gift, then involve the person being filmed in choosing a date and sharing the stories they are comfortable telling. This keeps the gift special without surprising them with a camera.
Do we need to choose a filming date before the birthday?
No. We can first talk about the person and the type of film you have in mind, then arrange filming around the family and the person being filmed.
Can siblings or other family members be involved?
Yes. The Conversation includes one main storyteller. The Life Portrait includes two main storytellers and up to two brief family interviews. A Family Film includes two main storytellers and up to four brief family interviews. We can quote more voices separately. Families can still coordinate the project together if one person handles the booking.
Can filming be split into shorter visits?
Yes. The Life Portrait includes one full filming day. If shorter sessions would suit someone better, two half-day visits at the same home can be arranged for an extra fee agreed in your quote. A Family Film includes two full filming days: one mainly for interviews and one for visual scenes. Breaks are part of each day, so nobody needs to speak continuously.
What if my parent or grandparent doesn't like being on camera?
That's very common. Filming is conversational and relaxed, usually at home or somewhere familiar. There is nothing to memorise and no expectation to perform or speak perfectly.
Can old photographs and home videos be included?
Absolutely. Family photographs, letters, home videos and other archive material can add another layer to the story and help bring memories to life.
How far ahead should we organise the film?
If you would like the finished film ready for a particular birthday or family celebration, enquire as early as practical so there is time for planning, filming, editing and family feedback. We confirm the delivery date in your quote.
