Victoria and Carlos together in their family film
70th & 80th birthday gifts · Sydney

A gift made from
a lifetime of stories.

For a milestone birthday, create something more personal than another present: a warm, cinematic film built around their voice, memories, photographs and the people they love.

A meaningful gift for parents, grandparents and the whole family to keep.
A different kind of birthday gift

Celebrate the life behind the milestone.

By the time someone reaches 70 or 80, finding a present that feels genuinely meaningful can be difficult. A Life Portrait Film turns the occasion into an opportunity to capture the stories, experiences and little details that make them who they are.

Through relaxed conversation, we explore childhood memories, relationships, family traditions, turning points, favourite stories and the things that matter to them now.

The result is not a birthday message or a slideshow. It is a personal documentary the family can return to long after the celebration itself.

Give the idea, then make it theirs

It can still feel like a surprise.

You do not need to organise a secret camera crew or ask them to perform on their birthday. Many families simply introduce the idea of the film as the gift, then involve the person being filmed in choosing the date, the setting and the stories they are comfortable sharing.

That keeps the gesture special while making the actual filming relaxed, collaborative and respectful.

See an example

Not a slideshow. A little documentary about them.

The interview is only part of the film. Photographs, meaningful objects, everyday routines and natural cutaways help give the stories a sense of place and personality.

What can become part of the film?

The memories that make their story theirs.

There is no fixed script. We shape the conversation and visuals around the person, the family and what you most want to preserve.

01

Where it began

Childhood, family background, places they came from, migration stories and the people who shaped their early life.

02

The people they love

How they met a partner, raising a family, friendships, traditions and the relationships that became part of their story.

03

The stories everyone remembers

Funny anecdotes, family holidays, favourite sayings, mishaps and small details that rarely make it into a family tree.

04

What they want to pass on

Values, lessons, hopes for younger generations and anything they would like their family to hear in their own words.

Comfort comes first

No performance required.

Most people we film are not used to being interviewed. That is completely normal.

The conversation is unhurried and usually takes place at home or somewhere familiar. There is nothing to memorise, no need to look into the camera and plenty of time to pause, think, laugh or go off on a tangent.

The aim is to capture the person your family already knows — not turn them into a presenter.

How the gift becomes a film

Simple for the family. Thoughtful behind the scenes.

01

Tell us about them

We begin with a relaxed conversation about the birthday, the person and what you would most like the film to capture.

02

Shape the story

We prepare the interview approach and identify photographs, people, places and meaningful details that could become part of the film.

03

Film naturally

Interviews and cutaways are captured in a calm, familiar environment, with time for everyone to settle into the experience.

04

Create something the family keeps

The conversations, photographs and visual moments are shaped into a finished film, with two rounds of revisions before final delivery.

A few practical questions

Giving the film
as a gift.

Can it be a surprise birthday gift?

Yes. You can give the idea of the film as the birthday gift, then involve the person being filmed in choosing a date and sharing the stories they are comfortable telling. This keeps the gift special without surprising them with a camera.

Do we need to choose a filming date before the birthday?

No. We can first talk about the person and the type of film you have in mind, then arrange filming around the family and the person being filmed.

Can siblings or other family members be involved?

Yes. Depending on the package, children, partners, grandchildren, siblings or friends can contribute their own memories and perspectives. Families can also coordinate the project together even if one person handles the booking.

What if my parent or grandparent doesn't like being on camera?

That's very common. Filming is conversational and relaxed, usually at home or somewhere familiar. There is nothing to memorise and no expectation to perform or speak perfectly.

Can old photographs and home videos be included?

Absolutely. Family photographs, letters, home videos and other archive material can add another layer to the story and help bring memories to life.

How far ahead should we organise the film?

If you would like the finished film ready for a particular birthday or family celebration, enquire as early as practical so there is time for planning, filming, editing and family feedback. We confirm the delivery date in your quote.

Start with the person

Who are you
celebrating?

Tell us a little about them, the milestone and what made you think about creating a film. You do not need to know which package or filming date you want yet.

Your name, email and message are required.

No commitment. Just a conversation.
